Cray Wanderers vs Bromley U21s – Pre-Season Friendly – 20/7/24
Cray Wanderers 4
Teniola 59, Clunis 61, Trialist 64, Trialist 71 pen
Bromley U21s 2
Cray Wanderers won their first game of pre-season but had to come from two nil down early in the second half to defeat a talented and determined Bromley U21s side.
Cray trailed one nil at the break and conceded a second in the 57th minute from the penalty spot but three goals in five minutes turned the game on its head with Alex Teniola, Nyren Clunis and a trialist scoring and another trialist added a fourth in the 71st minute with another penalty.
The first half never really got going with the weather the winner for the most part although Cray came close to scoring early on with a trialist having a shot on goal and then fired wide of the left post. For Bromley, the no 4 saw a shot blocked.
In the 28th minute Bromley took the lead when from a free kick to the right edge of the penalty area, the no 3 curled a superb strike round the wall and into the net.
Two minutes later for Cray, the trialist no 19 drove a cross-shot against the right post and then Lateef Adeja saw a shot blocked. Before half time the Bromley no 2 saw a shot held.
HT: 0-1
The second half was a much more livelier affair and Cray began the half on the front foot. Anthony Cook saw a lobbed effort held and then the trialist no 9 cut into the area and saw his shot blocked by the no 2. Then, Cook was unlucky with a strike from 20 yards which the keeper did superbly to push over the bar.
However in the 57th minute Bromley were presented with a chance to increase their lead when the no 20 was tripped inside the area and confidently stroked the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
Cray though quickly turned the game around when two minutes later following a fine ball in from the right came to Alex Teniola who turned and fired into the net to reduce the arrears.
Then in the 61st minute, the Wands trialist no 17 broke down the right and his ball across was possibly going in but Nyren Clunis got the final touch to make it 2-2.
The comeback was then complete in the 64th minute when from a free kick down the left, Clunis’ cross was headed home emphatically by the trialist no 19.
In the 71st minute Cray scored a fourth when the trialist no 16 showed quick feet to jink into the area and was brought down and then got up to score from the spot.
Bromley almost pulled a goal back when the no 19 broke through but was denied by a fine save by the Wands trialist keeper.
The Wands almost added a fifth when Teniola with his back to goal turned the ball just past the left post after a free kick was flicked on and for Bromley the no 16 shot wide.
In the end Cray had had to work extremely hard to win the game and in the second half certainly there were a few trialists who looked the part and good for the likes of Clunis, Cook, Archie Johnson, Alfie Evans and Frankie Raymond to get some game time.
Cray next move on to the challenge of a Millwall XI on Tuesday 23rd July, 7.45 pm in the first of three pre-season games against you would imagine would be good passing teams and will be a great occasion ending under the lights.
Cray Wanderers: Trialist, Archie Johnson, Quade Taylor, Trialist, Trialist, Lateef Adeja, Trialist, Anthony Cook, Nyren Clunis, Trialist, Alex Teniola: Second half saw Alfie Evans and Frankie Raymond come on as well a handful of trialists.
