In memoriam – Barry Lambert
All at Cray Wanderers are saddened to hear of the passing of a great club stalwart, Barry Lambert who passed away on 27th September following a long illness.
Barry has been a Cray Wanderers committee member for many years and was our programme seller on matchdays and helped with the general preparation and post match clear up and was a proper, non-league football man. Barry was part of the committee who helped Cray become an Isthmian League institution after years of being a Kent League and helped set up the foundations of the club we know today through his hard work and dedication.
Gentle, sincere, funny and a genuine chap what he lacked in stature he made up for heart and character and would regale you with tales of his many trips to Old Trafford and around the country with Manchester United from the 1960’s including being at Wembley for the 1968 European Cup Final when United became the first English club to win the trophy. He was also a huge lover of Elvis Presley and loved going to the theatre and seeing shows.
He has been very good friends with the Jackson family for many, many years especially Dave and Peter and Barry came to the club as part of that involvement and was a regular on away trips watching Cray until he became unwell.
Barry was someone who embodies everything great about our club and we send our condolences to his family and friends and we will forward details about the funeral arrangements in due course.
RIP Barry and we will miss you.
