Cray Wanderers – 100 Club Draw Result for January 2024

Hello to all Members of the 100 Club.

Yesterday, at Cray Wanderers’ fixture with Wingate & Finchley at Hayes Lane, where Cray grinded out a hard fought one-nil victory, won by a spectacular Gary Lockyer over-head kick and where we also paid tribute and celebrated the 90th birthday of the one-and-only Bill Lappage, we held what was my first 100 Club draw as administrator, taking over from the retiring Kerry Phillips.

May I thank Kerry for his sterling efforts, since 2008, in organising the 100 Club and for finally getting through to the bank, after nearly 2 months of letters, phone calls and even a wasted personal visit to the branch (in Folkestone) who finally sent us the form we’d been crying out for and not in digital format so we could amend the bank mandate. I can tell you, it was quite an emotional moment for both of us. But now we wait for the bank’s response.

Anyway, I digress!

To facilitate the drawing of the winning numbers, we nabbed the legend that is Mr Bill Lappage, before he left the pitch after collecting his bottle of bubbly from Chairman Gary Hillman, in front of the main stand at Hayes Lane,  to do the draw for us and these were the results of his efforts:-

The first Prize, of £150, was won by the holder of number 34, that person being Mr Martyn Beadle, of Swanley, who has also very kindly invested in 2 more numbers. Congratulations Martyn and many thanks for your continued support.

Second Prize, of £100, went to the holder of number 23, who was Miss Marie Hammond. Marie is a resident of Greenwich, South East London, who also funds the “Keith Reeve Memorial Trophy”, rewarding one academy player as “Scholar of the Year”. Congratulations Marie and again, thanks for your continued support.

Third and final Prize this month, of £50, goes to Mr Alan Borrett, the holder of number 83. He resides in another part of South East London, Penge. Congratulations and well done Alan.

As we are still waiting for the bank to spring into action, cheques will be sent out by Kerry on Monday.

Well that’s it for another month.

I want to thank you all for your continued support. Myself and all involved at Cray Wanderers really do appreciate it.

We are now on a bit of a mission to increase membership before we get to Flamingo Park and to hopefully get to the actual 100 figure. Not only can we donate more to Cray Wanderers Football Club but we can hopefully consider increasing the prize money. Please, ask your friends and family, if they would like to get involved and, not only boost the finances of the “Oldest Football Team in London” but win a cash prize.

As for Flamingo Park, every time I visit, something major has happened and things have changed. We have a fully functioning bar and event facility and a pitch that is now being used for the kids soccer schools and will, next week, Sunday 4th February, be holding it’s first official Football match when Cray’s growing and successful Women’s team will be taking to the field. So the future looks bright!

The very best of luck to you all in future draws and again a big thank you for your continued support.
