NINE BELOW ZERO – LIVE AT FLAMINGO PARK – SATURDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER, 7 pm
A note for Cray Wanderers supporters of a big live music event taking place at Flamingo Park on Saturday 23rd September.
Playing live on the brand new Flamingo Park stage will be South London Rhythm and Blues band Nine Below Zero who will perform ahead of a UK Tour with Canvey Island legends Dr. Feelgood.
Nine Below Zero are no ordinary Joe’s. The band first started out in 1978 formed by longtime frontman Dennis Greaves as Stan’s Blues Band and after two years of playing the pub and club circuit and changing their name to Nine Below Zero were signed by iconic record label A&M in 1980. They released their first album, Live At the Marquee in July 1980 and played the Hammersmith Odeon later that year. In 1981 they supported fellow mod icons The Who! and The Kinks and appeared on TV on the Old Grey Whistle Test and South Bank Show.
One of their televisual highlights was their appearance on the first episode of The Young Ones in November 1982 and their third album The Third Degree was released in 1983.
After a six year hiatus the band reformed in 1990 for the 10th anniversary celebrations and have continued to record albums and tour extensively ever since. They have supported some of the biggest names in music history, Sting, Eric Clapton, Ray Davies, Chuck Berry, Squeeze, The Stranglers, Bruce Foxton’s From the Jam and many more and have also played prestigious blues festivals in Europe, US and Canada and played the Acoustic stage at Glastonbury in 2016.
The band have released 24 albums and this year sees the 40th anniversary of the Third Degree LP. NBZ have recently been on a three night tour of Scotland with Big Country and a band renowned as a major live attraction will be bringing their unique blues style to Flamingo Park for which we aim to be the first of a number of top rank live attractions.
With many thanks for the great impresario work of Terry Smith for organising the event and also along with Alan Richardson and Gary Defroand for upgrading the stage facilities and maintenance at Flamingo Park over the last few months.
