Cray Wanderers Women vs The Comets WFC – Adobe Women’s FA Cup – 2QR – Sunday 22nd September — 3 pm
Cray Wanderers Women create another piece of history on Sunday 22nd September as Dean Jarman’s side play their first home FA Cup tie as Comets WFC are the visitors to Flamingo Park in the 2nd Qualifying Round. Kick off 3 pm.
Cray have begun the season in fine form in league and cup and top the SCEWFL Premier after two matches following a remarkable 7-3 win at Tunbridge Wells Foresters last Sunday. Katie Jackson has started the season in tremendous form and has nine goals is three games and scored four at Tunbridge Wells and had a hand in the three others scored by Hrystyna Kulishko, Olivia Gregory and Annemarie Blanche.
The Wands first FA Cup tie on 1st September saw Cray win 3-0 at Soccer Elite FA Women who play a league above Cray with Jackson scoring a hat-trick.
Cray will have to respect their opponents from SW London, The Comets who play in the Greater London League Premier and had a bye in the 1st QR. Their last league game was a 1-2 home defeat to Camden Town last Sunday with Elsa Wu scoring.
Comets were formed in 1998 and from 2000 played league football. The team played initially in the Clapham Common area of South London but these days play in Barn Elms close to Craven Cottage. The team originally were lawyers out of Law School but the team have evolved to be more inclusive and have had a number of Canadian and American players which continues to this day. The Comets were runners up in the Greater London Premier in 2022-23.
This will be a good test for the Wands against a side playing at a high level but Cray have achieved so much in a short space of time and will go into the game with confidence.
